The Ottawa Panel researched literature and articles on massage therapy and lower back pain dating from January 1, 1948 to December 31, 2010. Out of the articles, 100 recommendations were noted, including 37 positive recommendations and 63 neutral recommendations on the effectiveness of massage therapy for lowering back pain. The research also noted that massage treatments can help in reducing the chances of further disability after treatment.
